Footballers' union chief Fraser Wishart has warned Dundee's players could refuse to train if the club fails to pay their wages soon.
The Division One club are reported to be on the brink of administration as they negotiate a £350,000 debt with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, and failed to pay salaries on Thursday.
Scottish players' union chief executive Wishart believes the team could take matters into their own hands.
He said: "Our opinion is that the club has fundamentally breached the players' contracts.
"Why is there money in the bank and yet the club can't pay the wages? That's the fundamental question that hasn't been answered.
"I don't think it's fair that it is dragging on. There are a lot of people in the dark here.
"We have advised the players to continue to train, but there will come a time when players can't justify training because of the costs involved."
Dundee manager Gordon Chisholm said yesterday that the club were holding talks with insolvency practitioner Blair Nimmo in the hope of reaching an agreement on their tax bill.
Asked whether administration was a real threat for the Dens Park club, Chisholm said: "Without doubt."
