Mooy - on loan from Manchester City - helped Town earn promotion to the English Premier League after the Terriers secured a thrilling penalty shootout win over Reading in the Championship Play-off Final on Tuesday (AEST).

Speaking post-match, Wagner admitted the Aussie midfielder, and club's Player of the Season, was the "heart" of Huddersfield's game and labelled Mooy as his side's "outstanding" player this season.

Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion are among a handful of clubs said to be chasing the Socceroos signature. But Wagner made it clear the Terriers were hopeful of keeping the 26-year-old at Kirklees Stadium.

"Of course," Wagner said. "He was an outstanding player throughout the season.

"I said this before, Aaron is the heart of our game. He’s able to decelerate when necessary or accelerate the game if you need it.

"He’s so confident and calm on the ball, and has developed his fighting attitude since he arrived, because he arrived as a number 10 and usually number 10s are not the best fighters.

"Now, since he played a little bit deeper, he has a great fighting attitude as well. Usually, you’ll not find often the player who is so confident on the ball and has such great fighting attitude.

"And he is one of the outstanding players we had in the season. We’re very happy that he was with us and maybe this is a further phone call that I have to do."
