Arsene Wenger has vowed to bring in experienced talent to help his young squad deliver after the Gunners' season fell apart following defeat in the Carling Cup final to Birmingham.

Arsenal have been linked with Lille's Ivorian forward Gervinho, as well as Bolton defender Gary Cahill.

Walcott hopes any new additions can bolster the squad for what is set to be a challenging campaign ahead.

"It will be interesting to see who comes and goes in the summer, the boss has said he is going to spend," Walcott told BBC Sport.

"We have got a great squad and play the best football, it is just a cutting edge which we need.

"It is disappointing for us players because we want to give the fans something to cheer about and we want to be in the history books.

"It was not meant to be this season, but we have shown great potential, with Jack Wilshere coming through, Aaron Ramsey is coming back to form as well, which was great to see, so I think it will look quite good for us next season.

"It has got to be because there is a lot of competition with Manchester City and Liverpool coming into the frame now, so it is going to be a very interesting Premier League."

It has been reported Samir Nasri could be on his way out of Arsenal this summer, while captain Cesc Fabregas is continually linked with a return to boyhood club Barcelona.

Walcott hopes Arsenal can keep hold of all of their key men.

"If we can build our squad and hopefully keep our best players, it will look good for us," the England forward added on Sky Sports News.

"We need to win something next season. It has been so long.

"The fans have waited so long and as players we don't like seeing every year go without winning anything, especially a big club like Arsenal."
