WALES have confirmed they're keen to play Australia for the first time in August after being impressed by the way the Socceroos knocked off Germany earlier this year.
The clash could see the likes of EPL sensations Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey line up alongside veterans Craig Bellamy and Joe Ledley to take on Holger Osieck's Roos.
"If the game against Australia comes off, it'll be great," Wales coach Gary Speed to the BBC.
"There are a lot of European and British-based players, so it should spark a bit of interest in Wales and the Australian community in Britain."
Wales - currently ranked 115th in the world by FIFA - have traditonally played warm-up internationals against European minnows like Liechtenstein and Georgia under previous manager John Toshack.
But Speed now wants to ramp up the quality of opposition, starting with a date with the Socceroos at either Swansea or Cardiff. They are said to have appraoched the FFA about the match and are now waiting a reply.
Speed added: "Australia are a different level.
"They beat Germany in their last game so that just shows you what a good team they are and it will be fantastic for everyone if it comes off.
"If we are to improve and develop we want to play against strong nations, as we want to get to a place where we are competing when the next qualifiers come around."
