Emilio Martinez has earned the perfect 18th birthday present in the form of a one year scholarship contract with Western Sydney Wanderers.
An attacking midfielder, the youngster becomes the Red & Black’s third scholarship contracted player in the squad after Liam Youlley and Jackson Bandiera.
A Western Sydney boy, the Cecil Hills resident is a foundation member of the club, and is often in the midst of the RBB.
The left-footer came to prominence when he was selected as the Australian winner of Nike Most Wanted in 2015, spending a year at the Nike Academy in England before coming home to sign for the Wanderers.
“Spending a year at the Nike Academy was fantastic, getting to play against some of the best teams in the world and experiencing the different conditions, teams and styles has made me a better player physically and mentally”, Martinez said.
“It’s like a dream come true to sign for my hometown club. I used to watch them play, sit in the RBB and see it all from an outside perspective and now I’m on the inside I can see what the Wanderers are such an amazing club.
“I’ve always been a big supporter of the club: I used to be in the mix of the RBB with my cousins, singing for 90 minutes and even when I was overseas I’d keep up to date with the Wanderers scores on a football app.”
