Popovic handed in his resignation on Sunday morning, in order to take up an offer with Turkish Super Lig club Karabukspor, only days out from the start of the 2017/18 A-League season.

The 44-year-old’s exit leaves Tsatsimas and Wanderers management with an urgent challenge to find a suitable replacement.

“We need to process what’s transpired in the last 24 hours,” Tsatsimas said.

“The people we have in our football department are well versed in what’s happening in pre-seasons so it’d be folly for us to rush in and make a decision.

“We will take our time to make the right appointment.

“When that might be, I can’t confirm today, it’s still very fresh.”

The Wanderers CEO was asked if there was a frontrunner but said it was too early.

Tsatsimas acknowledged the timing wasn’t ideal but wished Popovic well, given his service to the club.

“I’ve had better Sundays,” Tsatsimas said with a wry grin.

“It’s doesn’t help. It’s all about timing. That’s the world of football, things work very fast.

“I’ve nothing but best well wishes for Tony.”
