The duo was released by City earlier in the day when it was clear they wanted to pursue other opportunities. They have more than 100 A-League appearances between them.

Wanderers are the third A-League club for 24-year-old left back Clisby, who played 60 matches for Perth Glory before making the move to Melbourne.

Clisby, who is known for his good engine, will provide options at the back for coach Tony Popovic.

“Players at the Wanderers really work for each other, the club always has a solid game plan and from an outsider’s perspective you can see a really good team chemistry which I can’t wait to be a part of,” Clisby said.

“I feel I can learn a lot under Tony Popovic. The Wanderers are a very competitive club and I would like to take my game to the next level and contribute to that.

“It’s going to be a new experience for me, a new challenge and I’m looking forward to it. I’m very excited and I can’t wait to get to Western Sydney and join the group.”

For Melling, the move presents a new challenge for the Australian Institute of Sport product after 45 appearances with Adelaide United and City.

Making his first grade debut as a teenager with the Reds, the tough-tackling midfielder moved to Melbourne where he established himself as a regular in City’s midfield.

“For me it was time to move to a club that always aspires to be the best,” said the box-to-box midfielder.

“Playing against the Wanderers is very intimidating – especially in Western Sydney – and to play in that atmosphere, with that fan group behind me will be an incredible experience.

“I’m going to put my body on the line for the team and I’m going to give my all for this club.”
