Former Socceroo Archie Thompson has been caught on camera interrupting a small-sided game of grassroots football to make a crunching tackle on one of the young players.

The incident occurred during the first A-League derby between Western United and Melbourne City with Thompson looking to get in on the action off to the side of the pitch.

In one of Real Madrid's most outstanding performances at the Camp Nou, Los Blancos beat FC Barcelona 3-1 in the Spanish Supercup. Real were leading 2-1 after Cristiano Ronaldo's 80th minute goal, but just before the final whistle, we sealed the win with this beautiful Marco Asensio strike.

In hilarious fashion, Archie mistimes his intervention and two-foot tackles the young player during the middle of the game.

On reflecting on the incident the former Melbourne Victory striker tried to claim his innocence.

Thompson said: "That didn't look like me, that could've been anyone who was in a blue suit, dark skin."

"I saw the ball and I had an eye for it. I apologised, I apologised to mum and dad."

Clearly still having an itch to get back into the action, Thompson certainly gave the young player a moment he will never forget.
