Lucchese manager, Giancarlo Favarin has been handed a five-month ban after headbutting an Alessandria coach in a heated Serie C fixture.

Late into the game, an argument broke out between the Lucchese and Alessandria bench with Favarin losing his cool and headbutting one of the opposition staff members in the sixth minute of added time.

The Italian manager claimed he was provoked into taking action after he was sent off in the 95th-minute for arguing with the Alessandria bench.

Favarain said: "The Alessandria bench offended and spat at us."

"I would be sorry, but I was attacked and attacked."

Things seemed to be on the up for Lucchese after clawing back to level terms at 2-2 with Alessandria after being 2-0 down.

However, Favarain couldn't hold his temper in the final moments of the game and has subsequently been banned until June 30, 2019, missing the rest of the season.
