Union Berlin achieved promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history
Union Berlin has been promoted to the Bundesliga after a 0-0 draw with VfB Stuttgart in the second leg of the relegation/promotion playoff as the tie finished 2-2 on aggregate.
Union Berlin finished third in the second division of German football meanwhile Stuttgart finished third from bottom in the Bundesliga which led to the two-legged tie.
A 2-2 draw at Stuttgart's Mercedes-Benz Arena meant Union Berlin went in knowing they had an advantage should the second leg finish in a draw.
As the referee blew the whistle for full time in the second leg thousands of Union Berlin fans stormed the field to celebrate their side's first promotion to the Bundesliga.

Wild celebrations at Berlin's Stadion An der Alten Forsterei were well deserved, with Union Berlin's fans known for their cult-like following.
Germany's capital now has two representatives in the Bundesliga with Union, located in the Eastern part of Berlin, joining Hertha in the top flight.
Union Berlin's sports chief Oliver Ruhnert said: "The team really deserved this after such a season, but it was the toughest route they chose."
"It is such a great feeling to give people what they have been yearning for."

Union Berlin join Cologne and Paderborn as the Bundesliga's newcomers for next season, meanwhile Stuttgart has suffered their second relegation in four seasons.
