Victory last week played with a 4-4-2 diamond formation with Kosta Barbarouses and Jai Ingham up front to compensate for the injured Kenny Athiu and Ola Toivonen.

But Ingham got injured in the warm-ups before the Mariners game which forced coach Kevin Muscat to play with a 4-3-2-1 formation with Barbarouses as a target man.

It didn’t matter for Victory as they went into the half-time break with a 3-0 lead with goals from Keisuke Honda, James Troisi and Corey Brown.

Antonis praised his team for being able to dominate the opposition, despite not having many options in the squad.

“We were unlucky that Jai got injured in the warm-up and we had to change our formation, but it shows we can adapt really well,” Antonis told FTBL.

“With that front three, we’re very dangerous. Our backline did well. Carl Valeri and Leigh Broxham were also good.

“We’ve got two consecutive wins in a row. It’s good for us and especially with that first-half performance, if we can play like that every week, then it’s going to be difficult for teams.”

Antonis also said they would put the international break to good use to prepare for their next match against Sydney FC in a fortnight.

“We’re disappointed with the two losses against Melbourne City and Perth Glory, but I didn’t think we deserved to lose them,” he said.

“We just need to move on, we’re picking it up and it’s a long season still ahead of us. We need to keep going.

“We’ll freshen up next week, but we’ve got a big game against Sydney so we’ll get prepared for that and go from there.

“I’m a Sydney boy, I’m always going back up to play there and it’s always good to play in front of my family and friends. It will be a big game for me and the team.”
