ALEX Brosque believes Sydney FC can cope with the absence of talismanic striker John Aloisi when they take on Melbourne Victory in the A-League Grand Final at Etihad Stadium.
Sydney's top-scorer tore his hamstring early in last weekend's 4-2 Preliminary Final triumph over Wellington Phoenix but teenage replacement Chris Payne came on and scored twice to fire the Sky Blues to their second Grand Final.
"There have been times during the year where Johnny's been missing or (Steve) Corica has been missing. Right through the squad we've got good cover to be able to replace those guys," Brosque said.
"They are big losses obviously, but you look at Payney last week, it was a match we had to win. He came on and scored a double."
Boss Vitezslav Lavicka's only decision is whether to start Sebastian Ryall or the fit-again Shannon Cole at the back.
With Aloisi and skipper Corica missing through injury, Brosque has backed fellow forward Payne to fill the breach.
"He didn't looked fazed, he didn't look worried at all," said Brosque about the 19-year-old's performance against Wellington.
"He's a good young kid. I think he's ready to step up. There's pressure there, but it's a Grand Final. There's no added pressure because those two aren't there."
Corica also believes Sydney have enough strength in depth to overcome Melbourne.
"We've still got five players who have won Grand Finals before," the 36-year-old said.
"Obviously Melbourne have got a few more but I think we've got quality in our team."
Melbourne have been burdened with a heavy fixture list of late following their Asian Champions League commitments but enjoyed a 10-day break in the run-up to tomorrow's showpiece encounter and boss Ernie Merrick is in confident mood with a full-strength squad at his disposal.
"As it would happen we have got our best team available for the most crucial game of the season and I think the best is yet to come from Melbourne Victory," he said.
"It's been the perfect build-up for us.
"As any coach will tell you it's often that the quality of a team can be measured by the quality of the bench and I thought our bench in the semi-final was outstanding.
"Every time we bought someone on - whether it was Archie (Thompson) or Marvin Angulo or Evan Berger - our team just seemed to get better and stronger and we will be in a similar situation tomorrow."
