Sydney FC striker Matt Simon says his side simply couldn’t get close to a “world class” Liverpool outfit in Wednesday’s 3-0 friendly loss at ANZ Stadium.
More than 72,000 fans turned out in Sydney as first-half goals to Daniel Sturridge, Alberto Moreno and Roberto Firmino settled the contest.

“It was a great experience to come out against a world class side,” Simon told ABC 2 post-game.
“You just can’t get close to them. Just watching in the first half, they’re so rapid and had a few more gears to go.
“It was a good experience, especially for the young boys towards the end.
“To be on the same pitch as those boys, it was a pleasure.”'
Sydney won the A-League championship just over a fortnight ago, conceding only 12 goals during the regular season.
Simon acknowledged Liverpool represented a significant test after a dominant A-League season.
“(They’re a) world class side,” he said.
“They’ve had a big year themselves, we had a pretty good season as well.
“It was a great test to come out against these world class players.”
