Stand-in Australia skipper Mark Milligan says the Socceroos had nothing left to give after Tuesday’s frustrating 2-1 win over Thailand at AAMI Park.

The result means Australia’s automatic World Cup qualification hopes hinge on Japan denying Saudi Arabia victory from 3.30am AEST on Wednesday morning.
Australia dominated against the War Elephants in every facet, except the scoresheet, waiting 69 minutes to break the deadlock when they needed a healthy win to overcome Saudi Arabia’s goal difference advantage.
The Socceroos had 74 per cent possession and hit the woodwork three times.
“We gave it everything we had tonight,” Milligan told Fox Sports.
“We got at them. Overall we played our game.
Thanks to all supporters who came out tonight, made the atmosphere incredible. 🇦🇺

Really frustrating night. Now we wait...
“We got in good scoring positions.
“I don’t know how many times we hit the post.”
Milligan said there was no panic at half-time from coach Ange Postecoglou.
“We were creating all the chances,” the Melbourne Victory man said.
“We didn’t need to change too much. The only thing we needed to change was hit the back of the net.
“We needed to stay calm and keep doing the things we were doing.
“We knew they were going to tire. We made them do a lot of work. Credit to them, they hung firm.”
