Melbourne Victory are in good form going into the Christmas derby, as both of their losses this season have been to City and table-topping Glory in the first two weeks.

Speaking to FTBL today, Vidosic recalls being ill for the first clash against Victory, but believes that win has given them a psychological advantage.

“It gives a little bit of a mental edge after getting the better of them in the first round,” Vidosic said.

“It was a great game and I was really happy for the boys to get the win. It’s another one this Saturday and we’ll say it’s just three points, but for the fans, club and the city, it has a bit more importance.

“Victory have been playing very well, they’re getting confident. They’ve gone six games in a row and they’re definitely feeling good.

“They’ll be looking to continue that and we’re looking to bridge the gap within them and Perth, so it’s got all the makings of a blockbuster on the weekend. Both teams are going out to win, so it should be a fantastic game for the fans and all the neutrals.”

Much of the talk about City has been about a player who hasn’t played since Round 4 – Bruno Fornaroli, who was axed before their 2-0 loss to Brisbane Roar in late November.

Fornaroli is reportedly set to leave City in January and Lachlan Wales has taken the Uruguayan’s position up front.

Wales has made six appearances, netting his first A-League goal against Newcastle Jets three weeks ago.

Former Socceroo Vidosic added he would be guiding the inexperienced players before the derby and praised Wales.

“There are heaps of players pushing and Lachie’s cementing a spot at the moment and causing opponents problems with his speed and movement,” he said.

“We’re trying to play to everyone’s strengths. We want to get in behind defences and that stretches teams as well, it gives us a bit of freedom in the midfield with the likes of myself, Riley McGree and whoever occupies that role and we’ve changed it up a little bit.

“With my experience, I’ll try help the younger ones and lead them on the park. I’ll play an extra part this week, keeping them, preparing well and just getting ready for a big week.”
