Grant Brebner has demanded his struggling Melbourne Victory find their impetus and spark ahead of their A-League clash with fierce rivals Adelaide United.
Coach Grant Brebner says there's no two ways about it: Melbourne Victory must beat Adelaide United if they're to reboot their horror A-League season.
Victory are struggling at the bottom of the table with just seven points from a possible 30 and were left reeling after a 6-0 derby loss to Melbourne City last week
"Losing and winning is a habit. We need to find that winning thread," Brebner said.
"We need to get - by hook (or) by crook - we need to get a win this weekend.
"Of course we want to do it by having a great performance, but we'll take a win however - we'll take those three points and we'll try and build on it."
Given their fierce rivalry over the years, the in-form Reds would clearly welcome the chance to compound Victory's misery at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.
"It's the original rivalry, isn't it, and we've had some fantastic games against Adelaide over the years," Brebner said.
"I've got no doubt that they'll be coming here very confident, looking at our results (and) we need to use that.
"It's easy to say, 'I'm not interested in Adelaide, I'm not worried about Adelaide'.
"Quite frankly, I just want to make sure, and I want to see that our players, our squad of players are up for this game and make sure that we give our members and fans a night that they can remember."
Adelaide have won three games on the bounce and relished the inclusion of Craig Goodwin on a wing.
While teen sensation Mohamed Toure (hamstring) won't play, the Reds hope Tomi Juric will return from a groin issue.
Victory will be without Marco Rojas for up to eight weeks with a fractured fibula but full-back Adama Traore will make a welcome return from a hamstring injury against Adelaide's potent attack.
"(A key is) containing those guys, being on the front foot, absolutely, and making sure that we are hard to beat - we don't concede," Brebner said.
"If we can keep a clean sheet, I'm confident that we will score a goal.
"So we need to make sure we contain that front three of Adelaide."
