SOCCEROOS coach Holger Osieck is hoping to get his 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign off to a flying start with a win over Thailand - but insists he's not taking them lightly.
Australia start on the long road to Brazil 2014 in Brisbane on September 2 with the clash against Asian minnows Thailand and Osieck wants to stamp the Socceroos authority on their group with a win.
But he cautioned fans not to expect a cricket score-style blitz and insisted he was treating the Thais with the respect they deserved by selecting his best available players for the game.
"It is the strongest group we have at the moment and we need to be strong," he said. "It's a pretty difficult start and when I look at the Thailand game, I'd compare it with the game against India in the Asian Cup.
"People expect us to win and get a great score bu tthe danger to underrate a team is always there. I think they are going to be well-prepared so there is no reason to be arrogant or under-rate them.
"Our boys know what is at stake. There won't be any problems regarding motivation or the right attitude."
Holger insisted no-one would be rested for the Thailand game to rest before the long journey to face Saudi just four days later.
"We start together, we terminate together," he said.
He also rejected ideas of settling for four points from the opening two games of the qualifying campaign.
"It's always an issue to calculate," he said. "When you calculate in football it never works. It's very important to have a reat start to the campaing and win our home game and go from there.
"Saudi will be a very difficult one considering the circumstances. They put the game into a venue which is not too easy to access and local conditions are not very favourable.
"We are going to have a lot of problems logistically regarding travel. It's going to be a tough one. Our priority is Thailand and we will put our full energy and thrust into that game."
