Fans will be expecting nothing less than a rout in the lunchtime kick-off at Ibrox after Rangers lost the advantage in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title race.

A 1-1 draw against Hibernian on Wednesday night saw Walter Smith's men squander the opportunity to return to the summit.

Instead, they find themselves trailing Celtic by two goals and knowing the championship could be decided by the narrowest of margins again this term.

But Weir insists three points must be the priority for Rangers before even thinking about winning by any great margin.

"We've just to win the game," the Scotland defender said. "We've got to give Aberdeen credit - they will be trying to win the game as well.

"It's not going to be as simple as that. We've got to turn up, give our all and try to win the game first and foremost."

However, Weir believes confidence is high in the Ibrox dressing room despite the result at Easter Road.

He added: "There are massive positives, when you look at the effort the boys put in and the application.

"You can't ask for any more, other than the win, but the boys put a lot in and should gain a lot of confidence from that.

"Hopefully, we can go on now and go from strength to strength."

And the Ibrox captain has predicted more twists and turns in the final two games of the season, with Celtic facing a daunting trip to Easter Road on Sunday.

He told Rangers World: "Hibs are a tough team and Aberdeen are a tough team - every game is tough in this league.

"There are two games to go for both teams and I'm sure there will be ups and downs and it's just up to us to get over those."

Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood insists his heart goes out to winger Jamie Smith following the midfielder's latest injury setback.

The former Celtic player, whose contract expires at the end of the season, will miss the final two games of the campaign after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury against Hearts on Tuesday.

Calderwood said: "Jamie has been so unlucky with injuries this season. He has had an horrendous time.

"His injury appears to have settled down a little bit but we aren't going to take any chances on him with so few games left this season.

"Whether his future is here or elsewhere, he is a wonderful lad and, when he is on form, he is a fabulous player. You don't want to let a player like that leave your club so we will see how it goes."

The Dons have had De Graafschap defender Rene Bot on trial at Pittodrie this week and Calderwood has been impressed by the Dutchman.

He added: "It has been good for him as he was able to see the pace of the game the other night and how different it is from Holland.

"He is a great lad with lots of experience. The training is a lot faster over here but he has been improving every day."

The former Feyenoord player was set to train with the Dons again today before flying back to Holland tomorrow.
