The A-League moves into the second half of the season next weekend with the top six already looking like it may be set in stone.

But while the bottom four may be struggling to stay relevant between now and April, there is everything to play for at the top of the table.

Just a handful of points separate second to fifth, and even early runaway leaders Perth Glory are still within easy reach if their run of results should take a stumble en route to the Premiers Plate.

The Christmas-New Year period has seen an intense run of games which has tested teams' limits – but Valeri insisted Victory were ready for it, despite key injuries to players like Keisuke Honda.

"The short turnarounds were something we had prepared for all season," he said today. "[Strength and conditioning coach] Anthony Crea has worked very hard on the program.

"I think we are showing the depth of our squad at the moment. We're able to get results, good performances, with a lot of players rotating, playing different positions.

"And I think that shows the mentality we have at the club where we're all ready to fight for each other."

Fresh from Saturday's 2-1 win over Newcastle Jets, Victory face Brisbane Roar at Suncorp tomorrow night, just a few weeks after beating the Queenslanders there 4-2.

Roar have struggled to find any form – despite striker Adam Taggart challenging for this season's Golden Boot – and prop up the table second from bottom with just seven points from a possible 39.

"Brisbane is always a tough game," said Valeri. " I know people say they have been struggling but it's always a tough game for us.

"You've always got to be switched on because they are capable of scoring goals at any moment."

If Victory win, it will put them within three points of Glory at the top - and Valeri is relishing a tight run to the end of the season.

He added: "It's exciting to see the the top of the table so close together and a lot of teams that are on a high amount of points, especially at this stage of the season.

"You expect two or three teams to be breaking away but there's four or five of us together up there, so it's good to see."
