EXCLUSIVE: Free agent and former Blackburn Rovers striker Maceo Rigters is on his way to Wellington Phoenix for a 10 day trial at the A-League club.
It was revealed by au.fourfourtwo.com earlier this month that Dutch striker Rigters was eyeing a move to the A-League after being released by Blackburn in the closed season.
Rigters will now spend the next 10 days at the New Zealand club who are looking to increase their firepower before the season kicks off.
The 27-year-old’s representative, James Hardy, confirmed: "Maceo has been with Aberdeen for the last week. He will now spend 10 days at Phoenix."
Rigters signed for Blackburn in 2007, but struggled to make an impact at the club and was duly loaned out to Norwich, Barnsley and last season he returned home to the Netherlands to join Willem II on loan.
A product of the famed Ajax youth academy, Rigters particularly impressed for the Netherlands U21 side, where he scored six goals in nine appearances, starting at the 2007 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship where he won the Golden Boot.
