ARSENE Wenger has vowed to carry on the quest to win the title with style and entertainment after watching Arsenal chalk up 1,000 Premier League goals under his guidance.
The Gunners were good value for yesterday's 4-1 victory over 10-man Bolton, who had defender Gary Cahill sent off at Emirates Stadium.
After dominating the opening exchanges - during which Russian Andrey Arshavin could have grabbed a hat-trick - defender Laurent Koscielny bundled in his first goal since arriving from Lorient.
However, the French centre-half then saw his tame backward header punished as Lee Chung-yong set up Johan Elmander for an equaliser just before half-time.
Marouane Chamakh headed the Gunners back in front before Cahill was shown a straight red card for going through the back of the Moroccan striker in front of the dugouts.
Alex Song brought up Arsenal's milestone with a well-taken goal on 78 minutes, before substitute Carlos Vela stroked in number four.
There have, of course, been so many magnificent efforts from a string of Wenger's stars over the past 14 seasons which has certainly seen a transition from the '1-0 to the Arsenal' days.
"I just feel we slowly built an offensive style. People come here and see goals, and that's the most important thing," Wenger said.
"We have players who are offensively gifted, talented and we have a collective game that can be played at a high pace so we can create goals and chances."
Wenger continued: "I think the Arsenal fans want to win and be entertained - the target is to win and to win with style. I think both go together.
"We went for a change a few years ago to grow a team together and try to create a spirit and attitude which gets everyone on the same wave length.
"This season is an important one because we have to show we can win with massive competitors - Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea.
"It will be very difficult, but I believe we will have our word to say."
Sebastien Squillaci, the recent £6million signing from Sevilla, stood in for Thomas Vermaelen against Bolton, but the Belgian is expected to shake off his minor Achilles problem to be available for the midweek Champions League opener against Braga.
Koscielny's mistake apart, the Gunners backline coped well with what Bolton threw at them, just as they had done at Blackburn before the international break.
Kevin Davis certainly pulled no punches, and indeed flattened Koscielny as the pair clashed heads when challenging for a high ball.
Having seen his defence breached so easily last season when conceding 41 goals in the league, Wenger knows this time things must be different.
"The only thing you can say is to win the league we need to be stable at the back. That's of course the challenge we have," the Arsenal manager reflected.
"I am confident because we have come out of two games against Blackburn and Bolton with six points.
"Defensively we did well, even though we made a mistake on the goal.
"We have so many players who like to go forward that of course when we have the ball everybody is alert. The team is improving at the moment."
Song's goal was his first at Emirates Stadium.
The Cameroon defensive midfielder believes Wenger's squad have the character of champions.
"This team is very special," he said.
"We can fight when we need to fight and when we can play good football when we get the chance to play good football.
"Now we know that we can also go away from home and be ready for every team and be ready for the fight."
