Since taking charge at the club the new boss has seen his team win nine and draw one of their 10 pre-season fixtures with just one goal conceded.

But Lavicka is a man who believes that there is always room for improvement. He also insists that the cut and thrust of A-League football is not the same as clocking up wins in warm up games.

The players were put through their paces in another meticulously planned training session at Macquarie University today with not a moment of the morning wasted. Lavicka was there to direct, inform, encourage and praise - always addressing the group as 'gentlemen' and always receiving their full attention.

Speaking to au.fourfourtwo.com after the session, he said: "We are together (as a group). I see that in every session, in every game that the players try to give their maximum and to meet the demands we have of them.

"We are happy but still we need many things to be better."

The coach said he was very happy with another clean sheet in the 0-0 draw with Central Coast Mariners earlier in the week but he was not happy with a blank sheet at the other end of the pitch.

"It was a very good pre-season test," he said. "We are happy that we continue to be organised in defence but we are not happy we didn't score. We had several good opportunities in the game though which is good."

Nine pre-season wins brings a smile to the faces of players and supporters but Lavicka is not reading too much into the run of wins.

"Now we start to play, and we need to play those harder games," he said. "Main season is different to pre-season. We play Newcastle (at Port Macquarie on Sunday) and that will help us again. It is another test.

Lavicka is relishing life Down Under and admits there are only a few tweaks needed to make it perfect.

He added: "(It has been) 99 per cent positives surprises, regarding the team, club organisation, the approach of players.

"I am happy with life here in Sydney. When my family arrives I will be satisfied and happy 100 per cent."
