Earlier, new strike partnership Carl Cort and DJ Campbell had looked dangerous and the latter eventually did his work, earning a spot-kick which Iain Hume converted after Rangers had defended deep to keep the Foxes at bay.

John Gregory's side were trying to bounce back from their 3-0 Loftus Road hammering to Southampton but were forced to defend from the fifth minute, when Lee Camp had to be alert to keep out Campbell's header.

Three minutes later Stephen Clemence hit a free-kick that was also kept out by Camp, who was being booed by the Leicester support for his Derby connections.

Cort then drilled a shot into the Kop from distance that was well hit and not too far wide.

Leicester had the ball in the net in the 15th minute when Campbell jumped above Camp to head in but the referee blew for a foul on the goalkeeper.

On the half-hour mark Martin Rowlands fired at goal but Gareth McAuley threw himself in front of the shot and put it behind for a corner.

A minute later Clemence crossed the ball into the box where it bounced around but no-one could find the finishing touch.

The first half was all Leicester, but just before the break they had a massive let-off as Martin Fulop was at full stretch to deny Dexter Blackstock, who flicked Stefan Moore's cross goalwards.

However there was more drama as Campbell left his marker and shot, but Danny Cullip somehow got back to clear the ball off the line.

QPR brought on Daniel Nardiello for the second period in place of Ben Sahar but it was Leicester who continued to pepper the goal, Levi Porter and Campbell both coming close to an opener.

On 62 minutes Campbell's persistence finally paid off though as the ball was played in to the ex-Birmingham striker, who was brought down under a clumsy challenge from Leigertwood and Hume dinked the ball past Camp for his second goal of the season.

Leicester thought they had doubled the lead five minutes later when a brilliant ball from Hume eluded Campbell and was stabbed home by Cort, but he was flagged offside.

Then, after being pegged back for 80 minutes, QPR equalised.

Leigertwood, earlier the villain for that foul on Campbell, turned hero with a power drive from 35 yards that beat Fulop to nestle into the top corner.

Leicester had been cruising but Fulop was forced into a number of saves in the final five minutes to prevent the visitors taking all three points.

In the final minute though, Clemence ran onto the ball to curl in a shot which beat Camp but bounced agonisingly off the crossbar, before James Wesolowski fired straight at the 'keeper with the final touch of the game.
