AUSSIE midfielder James Wesolowski would be a superstar if not for a spate of bad luck with injuries, according to his new boss at Peterborough United.
The Sydney-born midfielder made the switch from Leicester City this week and has earned instant praise from his new manager.
The 22-year-old has suffered two broken legs in his career, but played regularly for Hamilton in the Scottish Premier League in the past season.
After tracking Wesolowski for five years, manager Gary Johnson is happy to have got his man.
"Everyone thought he was the next superstar five or six years ago.
"I believe he would be a top player already if he hadn't suffered a couple of bad injuries," Johnson told the Leicester Mercury.
According to Johnson, interest was of aplenty for the unlucky Australian.
"I have always kept an eye on his progress since then and I don't think I am the only one. I know lots of clubs, including ones in the Championship and in the Scottish Premier League, who were interested in him so I'm delighted to have got him," he said.
Much is expected of Wesolowski, spotted by Johnson while playing for Leicester against his current bosses old side - Bristol City.
"I have a good memory for players who play well against my team and James falls into that category. He's everything I want in a midfielder. He works hard, but he's also got good ability on the ball.
"His commitment and passion are first class. He will break up the play, but he will also provide an attacking threat," Johnson said of his new recruit.
Wesolowski's career has hit at least two low points, the first of which came at the age of 17.
In a pre-season friendly against Celtic, defender Bobo Balde took a heavy touch before crunching into the Australian and breaking his shin, a minute before half time.
A break to the same leg after a clumsy challenge away at Brighton and a broken ankle against Tranmere followed.
But judging by his new bosses praise, Wesolowski will be a vital cog in attempting to help Peterborough back into the Championship in the upcoming season.
