AUSTRALIAN midfielder James Wesolowski has left newly-promoted Championship club Peterborough United to join English League One side Oldham Athletic.
The 23-year-old former Leicester junior has penned a one-year deal with the Latics who are currently coached by former Foxes striker Paul Dickov.
Ex-Australia youth international Wesolowski had joined Peterborough last year on a two-year deal, but the club have agreed to mutually terminate his contract to enable the move to Oldham.
Sydney-born Wesolowski started for Posh in last season's promotion play-off final victory over Huddersfield at Old Trafford and said he hoped for a repeat this season at Oldham.
"Playing at Old Trafford in front of 60,000 fans was one of those once-in-a-career events and the highlight of my time in football,” Wesolowski told the Oldham website.
"To be part of a play-off final, especially when you win, is something special and it will be an extra incentive to do well with Latics."
Wesolowski had made 39 appearances in all competitions for Peterborough last term, but wasn't in the plans of Darren Ferguson, who took over at the club in January.
"It was a surprise, but that's football which can be ruthless," Wesolowski said.
Wesolowski wasn't in the Peterborough side which opened the season with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday before quickly making the move to Oldham on Monday.
He added: "I had been training hard with Peterborough but not featuring in any games. I only learned of Latics' interest last night so the transfer has happened very quickly."
The former Leicester City, Dundee United and Hamilton Academical midfielder said he felt he could settle in at Oldham.
"My game suits the way they like to play and I love nothing more than getting stuck in,” he said.
He added: "I had one season with Peterborough and not many injuries (he has twice broken his leg and also his ankle in recent years) playing in 39 games and I am looking to settle down here and build on that.”
Young Australian goalkeeper Alex Cisak, also formerly of Leicester, is also currently on Oldham's books and played in Saturday's 2-0 loss to Sheffield United.
