Western Sydney Wanderers have bolstered their defensive stocks with the signing of 28-year old German defender Patrick Ziegler on a three-year deal.
Coach Markus Babbel won the signature of the towering defender for the next three A-League seasons as the Wanderers look to make up for the loss of central defenders Johnothan Aspropotamitis and Michael Thwaite.
Ziegler has enjoyed an absorbing career with over 120 appearances in the first and second divisions of Germany representing Unterhaching, SC Paderborn and most recently FC Kaiserslautern in 2. Bundesliga.
The 28-year old played only one season of lucrative Bundesliga football with SC Paderborn in 2014/15 season.
Ziegler is looking for a new challenge following the relegation of FC Kaiserslautern to the German third division as Die Roten Teufel finished bottom of the second division table.
"I'm very excited to be part of this great club and start a new chapter my career in Australia," Ziegler said.
"The main reason why i decided to join the club was (head coch) Markus Babbel. We had several nice phone conversations, where he told me alot about the club, my new teammates but also about the country, the culture and the lifestyle."
Ziegler becomes the seventh acquisition by the Wanderers and the first visa player ahead of the 2018/19 season following the signatures of Melbourne City trio Ruon Tongyik, Nick Fitzgerald and Bruce Kamau, Adelaide duo Tarek Elrich and Jordan O'Doherty and Aussie abroad Danijel Nizic.
