It started off like a horror story for Western Sydney with star midfielder Alexander Baumjohann coming off injured with a hamstring complaint.

Wellington took a surprise lead in the 36th minute as Sarpreet Singh worked his magic for Louis Fenton to slide home. Not too long before the break Brendan Hamill scored from a Western Sydney Wanderers corner and the sides went into the sheds level.

The Wanderers fans' celebrations then turned to perplexed looks as Oriol Riera was substituted off and Kwame Yeboah came on for his debut for Western Sydney.

Yeboah's energy was palpable pulling defenders out of position with powerful runs and stinging passes. Unfortunately a howler from Vedran Janjetovic saw Krishna put Wellington in front with just over 10 minutes to go, but we then entered a tense closing stanza.

Moments later Keanu Baccus rocketed a shot into the crossbar and in for 2-2. The ultimate stab to the heart for Wanderers fans came on the cusp of stoppage time when substitute Max Burgess crossed into the near post and Roy Krishna came in on the blindside of Brendan Hamill to score the winner.

WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS

Vedran Janjetovic - 5

The Wanderers keeper had some nervy moments when playing out from the back with some passes being intercepted.

Janjetovic came up with a brilliant save to deny a rasping shot from Williams. Janjetovic had another howler when he came out too late to sweep up Sheridan's pass and Krishna ran beyond him to score Wellington's second.

Tate Russell - 6

Russell started the attack that ended in a penalty shout by the Wanderers when Kamau was tackled by Fenton. The youngster played his second match in a week and has had two commendable performances.

Brendan Hamill - 5

Hamill put the ball in the net in the second half but it was ruled out for offside. After Wellington's goal Hamill was much more aggressive in his closing down of Krishna.

He finally earned his goal equalising with a header in the 40th minute although he was caught out with Krishna's winner.

Patrick Ziegler - 6

Used his body effectively putting off the advances of young Liberato Cacace, however his positioning on Roy Krishna's post slamming chance was suspect.

Tarek Elrich - 6.5

Elrich was shrugged off the ball by the smaller Louis Fenton for the opening goal but created a few chances going down the left flank in the first half.

Jordan O'Doherty - 7

Comfortable on the ball and when O'Doherty has time and space he is a solid player. The midfielder could have put the Wanderers ahead but his shot sliced off his foot in the box.

Keanu Baccus - 7

A good game that was appreciated more for his smarts than the technical side this evening. Baccus' choices on who to close down and timely interceptions were an improvement on a 'Jekyll and Hyde' week.

Baccus equalised in the 84th minute with an empthatic finish at the back post on the corner.

Alex Baumjohann - N/A

Injured and substituted off in the fifth minute.

Rolieny Bonevacia - 6.5

Bonevacia once again was a little anonymous for the Wanderers in the first half but he kicked into life in the second nearly setting up O'Doherty for the Wanderers second.

Bruce Kamau - 6

Kamau found himself in positive spaces and put Liberato Cacace under pressure. His second half performance was very promising but once again his final ball wasn't good enough.

Oriol Riera - 4

Riera couldn't find himself in any decent scoring positions with three centre-backs taking him on and he was substituted off in the 41st minute after the Wanderers' equaliser.

SUBS

Nick Fitzgerald - 7

Fitzgerald was full of energy when he came on and put in a dangerous corner which Hamill got his head onto for 1-1.

Kwame Yeboah - 7

Yeboah was the Wanderers second substitution of the first half. He immediately showed us what he was about splitting open Wellington with a through ball to Kamau who couldn't finish.

Yeboah was lively and a breath of fresh air for the Wanderers. He should have put the Wanderers in front in the 80th minute.

WELLINGTON PHOENIX

Filip Kurto - 6.5

Kurto flew through the air to deny Fitzgerald's shot although the Polish stopper does have a knack for theatrics. Kurto came out and collected thin air as Hamill tipped the ball into the net behind him.

Liberato Cacace - 6

If Kamau wasn't as threatening as he was Cacace would have been seriously dangerous for Wellington tonight. The youngster had a decent go at

Thomas Doyle - 6

Doyle had good spacial awareness whilst keeping tabs on Kamau but was sent packing by Fitzgerald on a few moments.

Andrew Durante - 6

Durante maintained his position in the heart of defence hoofing the ball away when it was necessary.

Steven Taylor - 6

Taylor had a free header in the box from a corner late in the first half but headed over the bar. Not a bad performance by the Englishman.

Louis Fenton - 7

Fenton tackled Kamau in the box, while Kamau went down on minimal contact, the referee overturned his original decision in giving a penalty.

Fenton ended up bringing the game back to the Nix with grea interplay with Singh and a tidy finish in the box.

Alex Rufer - 5

Rufer had a decent game but at times he would kick out putting himself under pressure and in the eye of the referee. His handbags with Yeboah in the second half were an example of his lack of discipline.

Michal Kopczynski - 5.5

The Polish midfielder's passing wasn't bad while his work off the ball needed improvement. Jordan O'Doherty was up for it and he needed to think twice about his movements and positioning.

Sarpreet Singh - 7

Singh made good work of moving along the front three and trying to make things happen for Wellington. His link up play with his fellow midfielders and wing-backs is starting to take shape. A brilliant chip over the Wanderers defence let Fenton put Wellington ahead.

David Williams - 7

Seriously fiery hustle from the man in form for Wellington who never let a chance go to waste.

Roy Krishna - 8.5

Exceptional at holding up the ball and had a rocket off the outside of his right foot cannon off the post. Krishna was first to the loose ball to touch around Janjetovic and scoring into the side netting to put Wellington back in the lead.

Krishna put Wellington back into the lead with an emphatic header at the near post and snuck in behind Brendan Hamill.

SUBS

Cillian Sheridan - 7.5

Sheridan rolled Russell on the left flank before playing a delightful ball into Krishna who got around Janjetovic and scored into an empty net.

Max Burgess - 7

Burgess had an immediate impact crossing in to Krishna for the winner.
