An inventive and mobile Kuwait ran Australia ragged in a 1-0 win in Canberra earlier this year.  There are only five squad members from that A-League dominated Asian Cup qualifier picked for the return clash in Kuwait on January 6.

And with 15 of the squad of 23 from Australia's domestic competition, Brosque says now is the ideal time to silence some of the knockers - particularly with Socceroo World Cup spots on the line.

While Brosque wasn't about to unload on critics of A-League players gaining selection, he argued that in many countries like Australia, the best players do move abroad.

"Comparisons will always be made but the effort and the passion the A-League players will bring to the jersey is what is needed as well," he said.

"It's always tough because the European players are better than what we've got running around but at the same time there are players here who can definitely mix it with them."

Brosque is in the middle of a heavy schedule with three A-League games in ten days followed by a training camp in Dubai leading up to the Kuwait clash.

With double-sessions planned for Dubai, Brosque knows the pressure will be on physically as much as mentally.

But a surprise call up to the squad for the Asian Cup qualifier win in Oman last month has the sky blue man buzzing - particularly at the chance of playing alongside Victory striker Archie Thompson.

"Archie's phenomenal and so unpredictable and I'd love to play alongside him," he said. "He's similar to Bridge [Mark Bridge of Sydney FC] so I'd love to play alongside him."

For that to eventuate Verbeek would need to play with two strikers - a policy he has so far eschewed. However either or both Brosque and Thompson could play as one of the three in behind the out and out striker.

Nagoya Grampus striker Josh Kennedy would ordinarily be picked for that high striker role but Verbeek said the Victorian was in need of a good rest after moving to the J-League mid-year and missing out on a regular off-season break.

Brosque added: "The first time is always good but to keep yourself in the mix is I guess is better and try prove for the A-League players that we should be there.

"It's good for us to compete against them and see where we are but if I could play alongside Archie, I'd love that."
