Neymar unveiled at PSG

PSG fans received their first glimpse of the world’s most expensive footballer, as Neymar was unveiled at the Parc des Princes on Saturday evening.

After completing his £198 million move to the French capital on Thursday, the Brazilian superstar was given a spectacular welcoming by 47,000 supporters ahead of PSG’s league opener against Amiens.

Neymar had to watch from the stands as he wasn’t registered to play the game, however the 25-year-old promised to win "lots of trophies" at his new club after being greeted by a stunning firework display.

PSG won the match 2-0 courtesy of goals from Edinson Cavani and Javier Pastore either side of half time.

The French giants are looking regain the Ligue 1 title which was won by Monaco last year.

Celtic start with a bang

Australia’s Tom Rogic came off the bench as Celtic began their defence of the SPL title with a 4-1 hammering over Hearts.

Brendan Rodgers’ side didn’t lose a single match in the league last campaign, while also winning both of Scotland’s cup competitions.

The men in green and white started the SPL season in style, with Leigh Griffiths scoring twice at a packed-out Celtic Park

Scott Sinclair and Callum McGregor also found the net before Isma Goncalves scored a late consolation for the visitors.

Rogic came on for McGregor with 15 minutes to go. The Socceroos star will now hope to force his way into the side ahead of Celtic’s game against Kilmarnock on Tuesday night.

The Football League is back

England’s Football League made a long-anticipated return this weekend, as thousands of British football fans travelled up and down the country to cheer-on their respective teams.

John Terry made his debut for Aston Villa in a 1-1 draw at home to Hull.

Meanwhile Wolves defeated Middlesbrough 1-0 in a clash between the Championship’s two highest spenders.

Massimo Luongo’s QPR were one of the standout teams on the opening weekend, beating last season’s play-off finalists Reading 2-0.

A late Nelson Oliveira goal saw Norwich come from behind to draw with Fulham, while Sunderland and Derby also shared the points.

It wasn’t such a great day for Jackson Irvine’s Burton, who lost 1-0 at home to Cardiff.

Pre-season friendly abandoned

In the final weekend before the start of the Premier League, Burnley’s pre-season friendly against German side Hannover 96 had to be abandoned at half-time due to crowd trouble at Turf Moor.

The Premier League side were leading 1-0 after a goal from Ben Mee, when riot police were called in after supporters of the visiting side tried to attack home fans.

Elsewhere, Liverpool finished their pre-season in style with a 3-1 victory over Athletic Club in Dublin.

Roberto Firmino, Dominic Solanke and Ben Woodburn scored the goals for Jürgen Klopp’s side in front of 51,333 fans at the Aviva Stadium.

Even so, the Reds were dealt a significant injury blow earlier in the week when it was confirmed that Adam Lallana would miss the first three months of the season with a thigh injury.

Tottenham also won their final friendly of the British summer, beating Juventus 2-0 at Wembley following goals from Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen.
