WITH the A-League upon us, 442 is putting out a challenge to all A-League players to step up and become 442's A-League Panna King for season eight.
First, to explain, what is a “Panna”?
It’s playing the ball through an opponent’s legs and getting it back the other side.
For a classic example of a Panna from the A-League match between Victory and the Jets. click here
A Panna is different to a ‘Nutmeg’ where the ball just goes through the legs sometimes with skill, sometimes with luck.
But with a Panna you have to retrieve the ball the other side, which is where the skill comes into it.
A Panna is a real crowd-pleaser, it is also the biggest humiliation for opposing players to be ‘Panna’d’.
That is why the newly formed sport of Panna Football and 442 have combined to create the A-League 442 Panna King.
The award will be given to the Professional Player with the most points gained from Pannas during this A-League season.
This is sure to lead to lots of dressing room banter about who gets ‘Panna’d’ and who is doing the ‘Pannas’.
Will the 442 Panna King for this season be Roar's Thomas Broich or Henrique? Or Marcos Flores at Victory? Or how about Alessandro Del Piero?
Each A League game will be monitored by Panna Reps and points will be awarded for the following types of panna
· 1 point for a straight Panna
· 2 points for a Ground Trick, followed by a Panna
· 3 points for a Ground Trick, followed by Panna, followed by a goal
A Panna King League table will be published weekly on http://au.fourfourtwo.com and fans can get involved by posting messages and videos of the Panna’s on the Facebook Page www.facebook.com/pannafootballaustralia
