“I was a little bit shocked by his reaction,” Middleby said after the Sydney FC man had hit the England and Galaxy star with a shoulder charge.

“I didn't think I hit him that hard with the tackle, but because I'm a bit smaller I may have winded him. He then sort of came at me. It's probably a little too bad, the abuse, to say exactly what he said.

“But it was a bit weird because the game was all about him so I didn't really want to say anything bad back to him. And that was it, I thought it was forgotten.

“And then when the melee was on we actually walked over together and he said, 'everyone's figthting over here, why can't everyone be friends like us two. We're friends now'."

Middleby admitted the FC players were worrried they might injure the star of the show “because everyone's come out to see Beckham.

“And my family were a little bit worried I'd get some bad press, but it's all been positive,” he added.
