It is understood an issue has arisen between Kapo and his current club Birmingham which has caused a delay, but the Latics are hopeful of signing the Frenchman in the next 24 hours.

Should the deal go through, it would mean a reunion for the 27-year-old with his former boss Steve Bruce, after the north-west club were reported to have agreed a £3.5million fee with Birmingham for the forward.

Latics boss Steve Bruce signed Kapo for £3million from Serie A giants Juventus last summer when he was manager of City.

Blues' current boss Alex McLeish revealed earlier this week that he would not stand in Kapo's way if the France international decided he wanted to leave the recently-relegated Championship side.

Marseille were also believed to be interested in the player, who scored five goals for City last season in their unsuccessful fight against relegation.

The player's agent, Willie McKay told www.skysports.com earlier today: "Olivier is currently undergoing a medical after Wigan agreed a fee with Birmingham.

"We are continuing talks over a possible three-year deal and we hope to have things concluded soon."
