The Premier League club have signed the 27-year-old from Birmingham on a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has been looking at the Chile international for some time after he impressed at the World Cup in South Africa.

"Jean is a player we have been tracking for a long time since he made a huge impression on us with his role for Chile in the World Cup," Martinez said.

"Now Jean has 18 months of experience in the British game and his dynamism, technical ability and tactical concepts will bring a different dimension into our squad."

Currently bottom of the table, Martinez has made no secret of his desire to add to his front line with Wigan having the worst attacking record in the league and still four points clear of safety with 16 games remaining.

He added: "(Beausejour) is ready to bring his own experience and his energy into the fantastic challenge that as a football club we're facing in the next 16 games of the season."
