Versatile right-back Wilkshire, who has been playing overseas since graduating from Middlesbrough's youth team over a decade ago, turned his back on life in Holland with FC Twente late last year.

"The move came about like any move really," Wilkshire told au.fourfourtwo.com. "A club gets wind of someone or they are interested in someone. Dinamo Moscow then approached FC Twente. I saw that as an opportunity for me. Something exciting, a challenge and a step forward, so off I went."

Since arriving in Moscow in August last year, Wilkshire played a regular part in the Dinamo team which finished third in the league ladder. With the new season just starting in Russia, Wilkshire has twice played the full 90 minutes as Dinamo won their opening two games.

"I'm enjoying life in Russia. The club is brilliant and I'm enjoying the football. We have got a very young team and a young coach, so all is going well," he said

"It's cold - as you might expect! I knew that when I went there, but you learn and it is interesting to see another part of the world and the way other people live.

"I've had no real cultural problems in Russia. I did learn of someone driving into the back of my car the other day, but I knew nothing about it until I saw the crack...but that's the Russians for you."

Wollongong-born Wilkshire is planning on seeing out his new deal in Russia before the 27-year old considers a move back home, possibly to the new South Coast franchise backed by Socceroo team-mate Tim Cahill.

He added: "I've still got three years left on my contract in Russia, so for the foreseeable future that's where I am. I'm from the 'Gong originally so who knows what the future will hold?"
