The talented 23-year-old, who has had back-to-back standout seasons with the North Queensland Fury, will join Sydney FC for the Group Stage of the Sky Blues’ AFC Champions League campaign.

Williams will return to the Fury once he fulfils his commitments with Sydney FC. He arrives in Sydney this weekend and begin training with Sydney FC on Tuesday.

Sydney FC’s opening match of the tournament is on Wednesday March 2 at Sydney Football Stadium against Korea’s Suwon Samsung Bluewings (8pm kick-off).

“We are extremely happy David will be joining us for our AFC Champions League campaign. David is a quality player who will complement our current strike force and provide us with different attacking options,” Sydney FC Vice Chairman Scott Barlow said.

“He is a fantastic player and shows immense passion on the pitch and that is a key attribute we look for in bringing players to our club.

“I also want to thank the Fury and their CEO Rabieh Krayem and Head of Football Operations Robbie Middleby for their professionalism throughout our discussions.”

On finalising the deal, Williams said: “With such a long break between A-League seasons, this six month contract with Sydney FC will not only enable me to keep playing football during the winter months but participate in the prestigious AFC Champions League.

“Sydney FC finished the Hyundai A-League season on a high and I believe they will be very competitive in this year’s ACL Champions League.  

“All footballers playing in the A-League aspire to play in the AFC Champions League and I’d like to thank both Rabieh Krayem and Robbie Middleby for being so supportive in making this deal possible.  "

NQ Fury Football Operations Manager Robbie Middleby added: “David is an exceptional talent and the heart of the Fury squad. 

“With the new season likely to start in October, we had already spoken to David at length about what options may be available to keep him playing football over the Australian winter.

“This contract with Sydney is a great move for David and also Fury.  Not only does he get to compete in one of the most prestigious Cup tournaments in the world but when David returns to North Queensland, he will be fit and ready for our new season.

“We wish David all the best during his time at Sydney FC and I know he will continue to be a great ambassador for Fury during this period.”

* Meanwhile Adelaide United star Paul Reid is reported to have walked out the club in an alleged row aboutover his demands for an early release from the Reds to join Sydney for their Asian Champions League campaign.

Adelaide are said top have refused to release him before their finals campaign and Reid is reported to have ruled himself out of selection for this weekend as a result.
