Williams has been based in the UK since he left Perth as a teenager to join Portsmouth in 2010.

The Australian has spent the past two years with Rotherham, helping the Millers achieve promotion out of League One last season.

But now the club is battling hard to avoid relegation straight back to the third tier with just five games of the season left.

Williams is off-contract at Rotherham and has yet to re-sign with the South Yorkshire outfit, despite being offered a new deal.

"I want to stay in England," he told FTBL.

"Being a free agent, it just depends on what happens with the club. The club has offered me a couple of contracts, but we haven't really negotiated anything yet.

"Whether we can negotiate something or we can't, whether we stay in this league or go down will probably be a big factor in what I decide to do. With all due respect I want to play in the Championship so well just have to wait and see."

The 25-year-old has made 36 appearances for the Millers in all competitions in 2018/2019, scoring one goal and recording three assists.

He has featured in a number of different positions this campaign including left midfield, right midfield, central midfield and as a number 10.

"I think I'm in a strong position now because I've done well this season, I've done well last season, I'm at a good age, I've got no real injury issues anymore," Williams said.

"But look I'd love to stay at Rotherham. Whether we can negotiate that, or whether we stay in this league or not remains to be seen."

The former Barnsley and Fulham midfielder has represented Australia at Under-20 and Under-23 levels.

Williams is settled in England and last month he and his partner had their first child.
