Williams put in a man of the match display at Suncorp Stadium, opening the scoring on 12 minutes with a bullet header off a sublime delivery from Leroy George.

"It’s about time," he told Fox Sports post match.

"I think I’ve had the most shots in the team. It’s about time one went in and hopefully I can get a few more.”

George who was a constant and dangerous outlet for the visitors then chipped in with his second assist of the night, setting up Kosta Barbarouses.

The Kiwi international ran onto the Dutchman's brilliant pass before sliding the ball into the back of the net on 19 minutes to give Victory their first half time lead of the season.

Only a string of fine saves by Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young stopped a blowout in the scoreline in the first 45.

Massimo Maccarone pulled one back for Brisbane on 56 minutes before Besart Berisha looked to have sealed the result against his former club, only to see his goal chalked off by the VAR for a clear handball in the lead up.

Shrugging off his own contribution Williams said: "I think it's more about the team. We hit patches on and off and I think we need to be more consistent.

"Now we get to fly back and look forward to next weekend."

Victory's sluggish campaign has been marked by false dawns. Two weeks ago the side defeated Wellington away 3-2, followed up with a 2-1 home loss to Adelaide.

And the centre back warned against claiming a season kickstart off Sunday's win.

“We said that a few weeks ago as well," he said.

"It’s down to us, pick it up again next week. We’ve got a big one in the derby."
