Speaking with au.fourfourtwo.com after a flying visit to Melbourne to be unveiled as the club’s latest attacking weapon, Williams hailed the attacking feel at Heart ahead of their second season in the A-League.

“Yeah, I’m pumped. With guys like Fred coming in and there’s Mate Dugandzic, myself and Adrian Zahra too, it was a huge part of why I wanted to come to Heart.

“There’s a real team feel and the style of football is what I enjoy at a home stadium I believe is the best in the country," he said.

Williams, 23, joined up for Sydney FC’s recent ACL group stage campaign and it’s understood the sky blues were keen on offering him a longer-term deal.

But the former Danish-based star at Brondby was wooed by ambitious Heart who have made a strong statement of intent in recent days.

“It wasn’t too hard to make the decision,” he added.

Heart coach John van ‘t Schip said Williams’ fitted their system and felt the one-time Queensland Roar starlet could get even better in the Heart environment.

“Since the end of the last Hyundai A-League season, we have been searching for an attacker with the pace, skill and technique who can operate successfully within our system. In David, we are supremely confident we have found that player,” he said.

“But while David is a proven performer at this level, we also feel he has the potential to continue growing as a footballer at our club, which was a significant attraction for us."

Making 34 appearances in three years at Danish club Brondby, including in the UEFA Cup, where he scored against Finnish club FC Haka, Williams returned to Australia in 2009, signing with North Queensland Fury, where he developed a reputation as a game breaker.

Williams – a genuine fan favourite at Fury after launching a community program for Indigenous kids in Townsville – is also impressed by Heart’s last line of defence.

“Bootsa [Clint Bolton] he’s still a quality keeper. His form last season was amazing. I can’t wait to get started at Heart.”

And fthe Melbourne derby will be even more special given one of Williams' best mates – and former Fury team-mate – Isaka Cernak is set to turn out for Victory.

Williams said: “It should be very interesting... may the best team win in the Melbourne derby. It's going to be a huge season.”
