Defender Aryn Williams admits he was shocked when he was told by Perth Glory that they wouldn’t be offering him a contract for next season.
Williams has departed the Glory after two years with the club. A Western Australian product, the 23-year old made seven appearances and scored one goal for Perth in the 2016/2017 season.
The younger brother of Socceroo Rhys, and twin of Olyroo Ryan, Williams is now on the hunt for a new club.
“Yes of course it is disappointing to be leaving Perth Glory,” he told FourFourTwo.
“It came as a shock to me that I wasn’t going to be offered a new contract but obviously I didn’t fulfill the needs that Glory were looking for so now its back to the drawing board for me to try and earn a contract at another club, somewhere else.
“Season 16/17 was a difficult year for me as I didn’t get much game time at all. I played my first game in round 10 and I only made seven appearances throughout the season. It was great to be able to be in the same team as Rhys, which made the season that little bit better for me.”
An ECU Joondalup junior, Williams moved to England as a 17-year old to join Burnley. He spent three years with the Clarets before returning to Australia.
The defender, who can play at right back and centre back, had a season with Floreat Athena in the NPL Western Australia before signing for the Glory in 2015.
“My time at the club over the past two seasons has been enjoyable as a whole,” he said.
“Being able to play for my hometown club in front of my family and friends is something I’ll always remember and I’d just like to thank all the fans and the Perth Glory staff for making me feel so welcome.
“Also to my teammates over the past two seasons, it’s been a great ride and thank you all for everything.”
FourFourTwo understands the centre back has interest from the Scottish Premiership and several A-League clubs.
“I’m currently looking for a new club and now we just have to wait and see where I end up,” he said.
“All I want to do is continue being a professional footballer so whether that means I sign for a club in the A-League or a club overseas then that’s what I will do. Hopefully at the next club I will be given more of an opportunity to show my worth.”
