WINSON Lo has won our FourFourTwo adidas competition...but thought it was a prank when he was told he and three mates were going to be flown to a UEFA Champions League game in London.
Winson (pictured above) entered the FourFourTwo adidas competition last month. As one of the biggest football brands in the world, adidas is able to provide exclusive access and unique experiences like no other.
To win the fabulous prize - a trip to London with three mates to see a UEFA Champions League game at Stamford Bridge - Winson had to write a headline and a few paragraphs from a photo of Chelsea’s Oscar.
Showing a feel for a clever headline and well written copy, Winson smashed it with this effort: Header: From Hollywood to Chelsea... Everyone wants an Oscar
“A few years ago Chelsea was keen on signing a Brazilian playmaker by the name of Kaka, they missed out when he signed for Real Madrid. This time round Chelsea made sure they would not miss out on another Brazilian playmaker by beating some of Europe's hottest clubs to the signature of Oscar.
“The young Brazilian scored twice in his Champions League debut to earn a man of the match performance that included a sublime curling shot over Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon. Inheriting Didier Drogba's number eleven shirt, Oscar used the theatre that is the Champions League and Stamford Bridge as its stage to show the world that he's arrived.”
Winson said it took him only around 15 minutes to come up with the headline.
“I just banged out the copy because I was inspired by the photo," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.
He already has his three buddies ready to take the trip of a lifetime. Thanks to adidas, Winson and his mates will participate in a training session at Cobham, tour the city and of course see Chelsea play at Stamford Bridge.
And he’s set to become a FourFourTwo star by writing, tweeting and photographing the trip both online and for the magazine.
“When I first got the call I thought it was a prank,” Winson added. “I was with a few mates out for lunch when the call came in on Friday. It’s surreal. I thought: Am I getting punked?”
Winson wisely googled the phone number and checked that Aidan Ormond was in fact the editor of FourFourTwo magazine and not some random phonejacker.
“Then it started to sink in that this may be true," he said. "And with another verification call from FourFourTwo and adidas today, it’s starting to hit home that I’m going to London
"When I told my mates they were coming with me, they thought I was pranking them too. They were in disbelief.
“It’s going to be amazing.”
It’s been a surreal few days since he was told last Friday and, even though Winson’s a Liverpool fan, he pumped to be going to the Bridge to see Chelsea play in the UCL.
“I'm really happy for Winson,” FourFourTwo editor Aidan Ormond said.
“Going to London with his mates to see Chelsea in the UCL, that’s got to be a fantastic adventure. It was funny though, he thought it was a prank when I rang hm.
“Now that he’s going, I look forward to reading sparkling copy and seeing fabulous photography.”
