Wollongong Wolves know they'll need public support to form an A-League franchise, so they've launched a public appeal to southern New South Wales.
The Wolves are vying for the hottest prospect in Australian football right now - two fresh A-League franchises that FFA will award in October.
It seems a fate accompli by now that one of these franchises will go to southern NSW, with two of the largest bids - Southern Expansion and Wollongong Wolves - based in the Illawarra region.
If the decision goes Illawarra's way, Wolves are keen to push off their high-profile rival and use their existing fanbase as leverage in FFA's decision.
"Let’s fill WIN Stadium –The Wolf Den, for every one of our remaining home games this season. We return home this Sunday 22 April to play BonnyriggWhite Eagles FC. We already boast the largest and most passionate crowds in the NPL but let’s build on that even further," the club's statement read.
"Get to the game, bring your children and your friends. Bring as many people as you can.
"Let’s immediately double our existing numbers and build on that even further. Let's have a digital presence that truly represents the support and passion we all have for football across our region. Like our page and encourage everyone you know to do so as well. Watch our numbers soar.
"Support our club that supports our community. Grow our member numbers to prove our existing fan base. Demonstrate the hunger and craving we have to bring the highest level of football back to our own backyard."
