WOLVES manager Mick McCarthy has revealed he plans a clearout of fringe players to pave the way for new signings to join the club for the return to the Premier League.
Topping the list is Jason Shackell, who McCarthy paid £1million for less than a year ago. The 25-year-old quickly found himself surplus to requirements and is currently on loan at Norwich.
Other casualties include transfer-listed duo Darren Potter and Darren Ward, who could move to the clubs they are currently on loan to - Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton respectively.
"Darren Ward, Darren Potter and Jason Shackell are on the list. There will be some others but they're not for public consumption at the moment," said McCarthy.
SOUTHAMPTON'S administrator Mark Fry has admitted the club is still contemplating an appeal to the Football League over their 10-point deduction.
The Saints will start life in League One next season on minus 10 after their parent company Southampton Leisure Holdings Plc went into administration earlier this month, but Fry insists the club will fight the penalty.
"We are currently investigating the available options for appeal," said Fry, of Begbies Traynor.
Coach Wally Downes believes his feud with CRYSTAL PALACE manager Neil Warnock will continue - even if Palace help his READING side clinch promotion.
Reading will gain automatic promotion on Sunday if they beat Birmingham and Palace avoid defeat against Sheffield United at Selhurst Park.
Downes - who was charged by the FA with improper conduct after a confrontation with Warnock in 2007 - told the Reading Evening Post: "I would shake him warmly by the throat if he helps us go up."
DERBY manager Nigel Clough would like to have Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan back on loan at Pride Park next season.
"Barry Bannan has done ever so well for us since coming in, but he will go back to Aston Villa because they want to keep him," said Clough. "However, he is one we would certainly look at trying to get back for next season for a loan spell."
CHARLTON midfielder Matt Holland admits he has not yet been offered a new contract but would like to stay at the Valley.
COVENTRY have decided not to appeal against Dan Fox's red card in the home defeat to WATFORD, who have been fined £7,500 by the Football Association for failing to control their players during the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff on March 18.
BARNSLEY owner Patrick Cryne insists the club will still pursue legal action against SHEFFIELD UNITED over Iain Hume's injury even if they are not relegated to League One.
OLDHAM are to announce their new manager tomorrow, with Dave Penney and Jim Gannon thought to be amongst the favourites to succeed Joe Royle.
BRENTFORD chief executive David Heath has confirmed that the club are preparing a report for the Football Association after striker Damian Spencer had his cheekbone broken by DARLINGTON defender Adam White last weekend.
Heath told the Hounslow Chronicle: "The sound the injury made was like a cricket bat hitting a cricket ball. It was sickening."
Stuart McCall is set to announce a decision over his future as BRADFORD manager tomorrow. He has threatened to quit the club after missing out on the League Two play-offs and spent three hours in a meeting with joint-chairmen Mark Lawn and Julian Rhodes yesterday.
WATFORD have terminated the contract of goalkeeper Mart Poom by mutual consent.
The 37-year-old was due to become a free agent at the end of next month but has reached an agreement to depart Vicarage Road ahead of schedule.
In total, the Estonian made 19 appearances for the club after arriving from Arsenal in the summer of 2007, but the last of them came in September when he suffered a dislocated shoulder against Reading.
Poom told the club's official website, www.watfordfc.com: "I'm sorry I couldn't have played more games for Watford due to injury but I certainly enjoyed the matches that I did play in.
"I am very grateful to all the medical staff at the club who have worked incredibly hard getting me back to fitness.
Goalkeeping coach Alec Chamberlain added: "Mart's professionalism and dedication is second to none. Whatever he chooses to do next, everyone at the club certainly wishes him all the very best for the future."
