Venues in Sydney are stocking up for what is tipped to be another fun-filled and busy month similar to the 2006 World Cup experience.
Four years ago, despite the winter cold and timeslot, hundreds of thousands of fans across the nation braved the chilly weather to head out and be part of World Cup parties.
In Sydney, Leichhardt's Norton St already has a number of venues promoting the World Cup for Socceroo and Italian fans while nearby Petersham is set to be home for Portugal fans.
Argentine fans are set to congregate at the Lewisham Hotel while the Campsie Hotel is said to be the home for South Korea's supporters.
In the city, bars such as the Scary Canary - official home of the group Footy Fans Down Under - is another World Cup location while along Darling Harbour's wharf area, virtually all pubs and clubs will be showing the games.
Also in the city is the bar Slip Inn will show all Denmark's games live. The venue is also famous for where Prince Frederik of Denmark first met his Aussie Princess Mary.
Sydney is also one of the official FIFA fan sites with Darling Harbour transforming for the World Cup with giant screens showing live games as well as bands and other entertainment with World Cup themes.
Throughout the day the area will also show highlight packages on screens for those fans unable to make it in the middle of the night.
The festivities kick off Friday night at 8pm ahead of the midnight start of the World Cup opening ceremony.
"It's more like a festival atmosphere," fan-fest project director Matt Morcom told au.fourfourtwo.com.
"It's the first time anything like this has been done on a global level. And Darling Harbour is beautiful at night time and football fans are a hardy bunch, they'll be out there rain, hail or shine."
Brazilian fans in Sydney are said to be using the official FIFA fan site as their base during the Cup.
Another venue expecting to see a large influx of fans is the Sports Theatre Bar at Star City Casino. The venue is open 24 hours a day.
"It's great to see Australia in the grip of football fever with the World Cup - we can show the world how much we love football," Camille Bentley, marketing manager at Star City, told au.fourfourtwo.com.
"And we hope fans in Sydney can drop by our place and enjoy the Cup and relax with a drink while watching the Socceroos and other teams."
