Situated deep in the impoverished Johannesburg community of Soweto, the Football Training Centre is a new complex built by Nike that is hoping to improve future generations of young South African footballers.

With the aim of helping 1,200 teams and more than 20,000 local players yearly, the centre will offer elite coaching from retired Bafana Bafana players on two state-of-the-art artificial pitches.

With team-branded changing rooms, a gym and boot room for players to try out the latest pairs of Nike boots, the Football Training Centre is a beacon of hope in an area that is slowly emerging from its down-trodden past.

And the aim is to make a difference off the pitch too, as Nike have teamed up with local NGO Grassroot Football to provide the youngsters with education on HIV/AIDS prevention.
