The former Aston Villa defender joined the Robins on a pay-as-you-play contract earlier in the season with his priorities lying in sealing a move to Sydney FC.

The A-League club were still hopeful of bringing Wright out to Australia and had been in touch with Wright over the weekend.

But the 36-year-old is now ready to commit to Cheltenham until the end of the season after a series of fine performances for Keith Downing's team.

"We spoke on Friday and Keith said he'd like to keep me," Wright told the Gloucestershire Echo.

"I have spoken to my family over the weekend and I have not spoken to Keith since as he has other priorities at the moment with trying to prepare for the Yeovil game.

"I spoke to someone from Sydney over the weekend and they said it was still a possibility, but I think for me the main thing is getting myself sorted out and signing something here if possible."
