Wright has not played for his English Championship club since last season because of injury.

But the Socceroo defender is back to full fitness and has been picking up minutes for City's Under-23s.

With City to face Birmingham City on Sunday, manager Lee Johnson says Wright could feature but he won't rush the 26-year-old back.

"He could do," Johnson said."I don’t think he’s far away now. He played a behind closed doors game and he looked very good and very strong.

"He’s a great character and a good leader. He’s been a long time out. An awful long time if you think: the end of last season, missing the World Cup and having an operation and barely kicking a ball in pre-season.

"And if you look at it, we’re playing two centre-halfs at the moment, we’ve got Baker, Kalas and Kelly who can play there...

"So we’ve got cover there and what we don’t want to do is rush Wright back so he’s chasing his tail in terms of fitness and injuring him again. He’s an important player for us and we love him and naturally we want him back in the squad but only when he’s fully fit and focused."
