The American played her second game for the defending champions in the 2-1 loss to Canberra United on Saturday scoring her maiden goal in the club's first loss in its short history.

The 28-year-old forward came from NWSL club Seattle Reign along with experienced W-League teammate Jess Fishlock and defender Lauren Barnes.

City has raised the standards of the comp both on and off the field, but it was the advice from her teammates that helped clinch the move.

“Professional was probably the word that was most used – ‘you’re going to love the professionalism...and the facilities'. And it's been top of the line," Yanez said.

“I heard a lot of good things from my teammates, especially Jess, and I thought it would be a good opportunity for me when it presented itself and I’m really glad I came."

Melbourne City launched their Elite Women’s Training Facility at the Club’s City Football Academy last month.

Yanez added: “I got here and I recognised a few of the players having played them in the US and getting an opportunity to know them now has been really fun.

“Coming and already knowing players, it definitely helps, and I think very highly of them as people and players.

“This is such a nice team, so when I got here I was welcomed and it felt very comfortable for me.”

City and Matildas goalkeeper Lydia Williams said Yanez “added more depth” to the front third along with sole striker Marianna Tabain.

Williams, who took out the 2016 PFA Women’s Footballer of the Year award last week, paid tribute to her teammates.

“It’s really humbling," she said. "I’m quite blessed. I’m lucky the girls on the team are not only my teammates, but my friends, so it’s quite an honour and it’s a special moment.

“The secret to my success is to keep doing what I’m doing, I don’t really like to take anything too seriously except when it comes to the football field.

“I like to enjoy my life outside of football and then when it comes down to it, really focus on what I’m doing and playing the best for my teammates.”
