Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young has been declared fit to play in Sunday’s semi-final against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park after requiring 26 stitches in his arm.
Young suffered a gruesome injury to his right arm during Brisbane’s 3-0 AFC Champions League loss to Muang Thong United on Wednesday, forcing him off the field.
The goalkeeper’s forearm scraped against a metal rung on the goalpost when attempting to save Xisco’s header, opening up a nasty wound which required immediate medical attention.
The situation left Brisbane furious with managing director Mark Kingsman publicly expressing his displeasure, along with striker Jamie Maclaren on Twitter.

The club were also left exploring the possibility of drafting in an injury replacement player with Young’s availability unclear and regular number one Michael Theo out with a knee injury suffered in their elimination final win over Western Sydney.
The likes of Ante Covic, Michael Turnbull, Ivan Necevski and Sebastian Usai were thrown up as possible replacement players to face Victory.
Third-choice shot-stopper Tomislav Bilic, 19, stepped in for Young in Thailand on his club debut, having never played an A-League match.

Brisbane confirmed to FourFourTwo on Friday evening that Young had now been declared fit to play against Victory.
Kingsman confirmed on Twitter that Young had undergone an X-ray which confirmed no bone damage.
He also said Brisbane intended to make Muang Thong accountable for the incident, although no complaint has been made official at this stage.
