The draw was made overnight  at the Grand Tarabya Hotel in Istanbul by FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke along with Turkish Football legends, Fatih Terim, Mustafa Denizli, Hakan Sukur and Rustu Recber.

Qantas Young Socceroos Head Coach Paul Okon, who was in Turkey for the draw, is looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead for his team.

“All the groups at the FIFA U-20 World Cup will be tough. Every game will be a final and we look forward to representing Australia and showcasing Australia as a serious football country,” said Okon

“We are confident that we can rise to this wonderful occasion. Playing in a World Cup is a huge challenge but none more so than playing in a group that has the host nation.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our players to play against the world's best players.

“Every group is tough. And we cross over with Group A (Spain, USA, France, and a CAF team) so we’ll need to be at our best. Nevertheless I’m confident we can do well.”

Young Socceroo forward Jamie Maclaren was optimistic about the draw but was hoping to face the old enemy,

“Great chance (to progress), wanted England though. It’s very exciting,” he said.

His feelings were echoed by winger Ryan Edwards who was pleased to face host nation Turkey and almost guarantee a capacity crowd of 22,000 to their game against Australia..

“I was hoping to get the host nation so I’m happy with that. All the teams are going to be difficult though, it’s the World Cup," said the Reading player.

“We don’t know much about Colombia and El Salvador but I think we have a good chance to progress."

It'll also be a chanceto impress the many scouts, coaches and agents who flock to the talent showcase.

Edwards added: "t’s the second biggest FIFA tournament in the world and there will be so many scouts and clubs watching the best of the best U20s.”
