The AIS will form the backbone of the next Young Socceroos squad and playing in the Foxtel Cup – formerly known as the Victorian Premier League – has done just what O’Connor hoped it would.

“Some of our players weren’t thinking quick enough last week. It's tough because suddenly players have to deal with differing conditions and having to think quicker," the former Socceroo told www.au.fourfourtwo.com

"There are no beg your pardons. It will absolutely improve us.”

In the first round of the tournament, highly rated AIS keeper Andrew Redmayne was knocked unconscious in the side’s 2-1 loss to Richmond.

However, AIS won their first game 1-0 last Friday against Springvale White Eagles in round two.

The Foxtel Cup is arguably Australia’s strongest state league competition.
